Moira's second famous landmark is Moira Furnace Museum and Country Park which is also home to the Canal. In the early 18th Century the furnace and many buildings that were on site were converted in to cottages for the mineworkers and their families and in the mid to late 19th Century the remaining families moved out of the furnace buildings which is now used to form the museum. The main feature of the site is the impressive iron making blast furnace built in the early 18th century which has been fully restored. Here you can take a trip on a narrow boat on a restored section of the Ashby Canal and there is also an opportunity to walk alongside the canal taking various routes around the country park and children's play area and is ideal for a picnic on a family day out. There is a workshop available currently used as a craft village with a café and shop and there are regular events that are hosted on site. You can visit the website at www.moirafurnace.org.
