Ashby De La Zouch is a small reputable spa town situated within North West Leicestershire. It is complete with an individual range of buildings from Medieval timber frame to fine Georgian and Victorian styles. Ashby has a unique character with a wealth of history which can be seen in and around the town with local landmarks including Ashby Castle dating back to the 15th Century which is believed to have been granted to the Hastings family (a royalist) by Edward IV during this time. There is a large green to the rear of The Royal Hotel and adjacent to Rawdon Terrace which are the last remnants of the towns history as a spa baths. Created when water believed to have medicinal qualities were discovered in nearby coal mines at Moira. The waters were then transported by rail for relaxation and healing. Unfortunately after 40 years, the Ivanhoe Baths began to decline and it is used today as a cricket pitch and leisure facilities with local food festivals, music festivals and plays host to the Ashby 2020 road race.
Ashby is a much sought after residential area with its thriving market town. The nature of the original town very much remains today with many pedestrianised side streets offering local boutiques and shopping experiences. There are plenty of things to do around Ashby and the local villages. Ashby has it’s own modern Leisure Centre boasting indoor swimming pools and outdoor lido's and fitness suite/games hall. Near by there is a local museum; library; childrens playground and recreational fields. Private facilities are also available close by including; Rebound (a recently constructed trampoline leisure facility) and Champneys Springs private health spa. There are six churches in Ashby De La Zouch alone; St Helens Church, Holy Trinity Church, Roman Catholic Church, Congregational Church, Methodist Church and the Ashby Christadelphian Church.
Ashby has an excellent transport network with links the A42 dual carriageway to the M1 motorway corridor and East Midlands conurbations beyond. Birmingham, Nottingham, Derby and Leicester are all within commuting distance together with Nottingham East Midlands airport and Birmingham International airport adjacent to the NEC arena. Main line rail links to London are well catered for at both Tamworth and Nottingham and East Midlands parkway allowing the commuter to reach the city centre within 70 minutes.
Ashby currently has four primary schools; Ashby C. of E. Primary School, Hilltop Primary School, Woodcote Primary school and Willesley Primary School. The town also has a middle school known as Ivanhoe Specialist Technology College and Ashby School catering for year 10 and 11 students with it's own sixth form. Ashby school is separated in two two buildings and accommodates boarders. The town has several nurseries and playgroups available including; Holy Trinity Playgroup; Ashby Castle Day Nursery; Swingboat Day Nursery and Ivanhoe Under 5's. Private education within the town and close by includes Manor House School, Grace Dieu Manor School, Dixie Grammar School, Repton School and Twycross House School.
